Chelsea’s Alonso hit with three match ban
Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso, has been banned for three matches and will now miss Chelsea’s all important FA cup semi final with Southampton on Sunday afternoon due to violent conduct.
The Spanish defender has been reprimanded for a first half stamp on Southampton’s Shane Long at St Mary’s on during Chelsea’s victory on Saturday afternoon.
The FA have taken retrospective action following referee Mike Dean and his officials not seeing the incident.
The suspension now means Alonso misses key clashes against Southampton in this weekends FA cup semi final and the Blues matches away to seventh placed Burnley and relegation battling Swansea City.
This news comes as a blow to Chelsea who are now without a player who has scored seven goals so far this season from the left back position, as they aim to overtake Tottenham for the last Champions League place, currently being eight points off of their London rivals with five matches left to play.
With Alonso out it now looks likely that January addition, Emerson Palmieri will fill the role temporarily vacated by the Spanish left back to make his Premier League debut at Burnley tonight.
